Culture is the character and personality of an organization. It’s what makes one’s business unique and is the sum of its values, traditions, beliefs, interactions, behaviors, and attitudes. Positive workplace culture attracts talent, drives engagement, impacts happiness and satisfaction, and affects performance. However, perceived notions, prejudices, and stereotypes of cultures can play a negative impact on the workplace. Cultural stereotypes affect employee morale and productivity. Employees are more likely to leave an organization if they believe that stereotypes determine how they are treated. Stereotypes lead to decreased productivity, dissatisfied customers, and reduced revenues (Chron, 2021). Therefore, as a leader, it is essential to employ a psychodynamic approach to help employees get along to produce positive outcomes. A psychodynamic approach helps employees understand their emotions and unconscious patterns of behavior. By talking through these emotions and behaviors, employees come to know themselves better and make better decisions for themselves (ERC, 2019). Additionally, during any conflict, it is important for leaders to:

1) Understand the nature of the conflict.

2) Encourage employees to work it out themselves.

3) Listen to both sides.

4) Determine the real issue, together.

5) Consult your employee handbook.

6) Find a solution.

7) Lead by example (Insperity, 2020).

Conscious Capitalism has four pillars guiding an organization in conducting socially responsible and ethical practices: purpose, stakeholders, culture, and leadership. Following conscious capitalism culture results in increased harmony between employers and employees, greater employee and customer satisfaction, and enhanced stakeholder loyalty. Therefore, these characteristics of conscious capitalism can be applied to further improve employee engagement and collaboration by enforcing accountability, integrity, trust, transparency, and fairness (WPSU, 2022).
