week three English

Learning Goal: I’m working on a english question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Project: Rhetorical Analysis

Page Count: At least 2 full typed pages, double-spaced, in MLA format with Work Cited

Sources: Only the essay you’re analyzing (https://www.theeagleonline.com/article/2017/02/op-…)

Practical Argument. Included within the chapter are several essays with annotations and tools to aid in writing rhetorical analyses of them. Read these pieces carefully before tackling this assignment.

Writing a rhetorical analysiss

Remember that a rhetorical analysis does two things. First, it identifies and analyzes the persuasive techniques used by the author. Second, it evaluates the effectiveness of those techniques. Your personal opinion on the issue should not be part of the analysis — only your opinion on how well the writer presented the argument.

Armed with this valuable information, you will now write a rhetorical analysis of your own.

The assignment

Write a rhetorical analysis of the student essay, “Sweatshops are Good,”

First, read the essay carefully, annotating and highlighting as you do. (https://www.theeagleonline.com/article/2017/02/op-…)

Then, write your rhetorical analysis; ensure that you include most or all of the elements referenced in your answers to the checklist questions.

Once you’ve written the first draft of your rhetorical analysis, review it to identify weak, ineffective, underdeveloped, or unsupported points and revise and edit your paper carefully. Your final rhetorical analysis should be at least two full pages, double-spaced, in MLA format with the essay you’re analyzing listed in a Work Cited. Use no other sources for this paper; your observations and insights based on a critical reading of the essay should be the meat of this analysis. Remember, whether or not you agree with the writer’s point of view doesn’t matter. Your feelings about the topic are irrelevant in a rhetorical analysis and should not be included.

You will be asked to submit your rhetorical analysis for a grade in Week 3, but because this project requires time and careful thought, start working on it now.
