Writing Question

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing report and need guidance to help me learn.

Thought Paper #1

Due Friday, September 30th

For this Thought Paper, write up a short, roughly 1-2 page (300-600 words) response to one or more of the assigned readings from Week 2 (“History, Memory, and the Politics of Narrative/Naming”) or Week 3 (“(Re)Thinking Space and Time”) and post it to this thread.

This should be a short thought piece that is primarily directed at your classmates as your audience. The content is up to you, but it must engage meaningfully with one or more of the readings from the above Week.

You might:

– Ask questions raised from the readings and try to explore them with your own thoughts/reactions.

– Select a text and explain how it changes the way you engage with another one of our readings, or how another reading changed the way you see or understand your chosen text.

– Summarize, in your own words, the main argument made by the author, try to explain why they might think it is an important argument, and talk through how you see it relating to this course.

– Explore how the reading might change how we approach, perceive, or think about something.

– Get creative! Compose a small artistic reflection on course content of your own making (a sketch, a poem, etc), and share it with the class. Please include a brief explanation of what the piece means, and what made you come up with it, or what you want to think about with it.

These are just general guidelines and ideas for how you might approach this post. Again, although this should be a carefully written, composed, and thoughtful post, it need not be as structured or polished as an Essay. These submissions are graded primarily for their effort at engaging meaningfully with course content and concepts, think carefully and critically through materials, and push to reflect on them and our own responses.
