Week 4 discussion

Learning Goal: I’m working on a computer science multi-part question and need a sample draft to help me learn.

Part 1

When to Stop Testing [WLO: 3] [CLOs: 3, 4]

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapter 6 from the course text, Software Testing Foundations.

Testing can be very costly and constitute a significant cost factor in software development. In this discussion forum, try to answer one of the most critical questions: When do you stop testing? When you answer this question, consider the following:

  • The more testing you do, the more chance you can uncover bugs before they escape to production. However, the more testing you do, the more it costs.
  • How do you find the balance between the cost of testing versus the cost of uncovered bugs?
  • How can you reduce the risk of critical bugs escaping to production when you stop testing?
  • Can you base the answer of when to stop testing on some data or will it be all intuitive based?
  • Part 2
    Incident Management [WLOs: 1, 2, 3] [CLOs: 3, 4]

Prior to beginning work on this learning activity, read Chapter 6 from the course text, Software Testing Foundations. This week, you will build another concept map using a software such as PowerPoint or Draw.io.InstructionsTo ensure reliable and fast elimination of failures detected by the various test levels, a well-functioning procedure for communicating and managing those incident reports is needed. Incident management starts during test execution or upon test cycle completion by evaluating the test log.For this week’s learning activity, you are going to build a concept map describing incident management and the different states involved with this type of management. In particular, you need to elaborate on test logs, incident reporting, defect classification, and incident status. In addition to your concept map, write a paper that addresses the following:

    • Explain the details of tests logs, incident reporting, defect classification, and incident status.
    • Describe how they contribute to effective test management.

Post a link to your concept map in this discussion form and attach your paper. Your paper should be 600 words. Support your content with two to three scholarly and/or credible sources in addition to the course text with in-text citations using the Writing Center’s APA: Citing Within Your Paper resource. The Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. Lastly, include title and references pages. For information on how to properly format title and references pages, review the Writing Center’s resources APA Formatting for Word 2013 and APA: Formatting Your References List.
